Welcome

Hughenden Minor HockeyHMHA is an organization that fosters, promotes and conducts minor hockey activities in Hughenden and district. We are fortunate to have an active and supportive Society that ensures hockey can be played out of the Hughenden Central Sports Garden.

All members must abide by the rules of Hockey Canada and Alberta Hockey. The executive is composed of volunteers who are passionate about providing opportunities for youth to play Canada's favourite sport - Hockey. We are also committed to ensuring that the sport is kept as affordable to families as possible. We believe that it is important for youth to develop physically active lifestyles.

Possible Association Merge

April 4, 2016

Dear Current or Future Minor Hockey Parent or Community Member:

You are receiving this information bulletin as also an invitation to attend a Special Meeting to be held on the evening of Thursday, May 12. At this meeting the executive hopes that the collective wisdom of many will help to make the best decision possible for optimization of opportunities for hockey for youth in our communities. There will be two simultaneous meetings – one at the Hughenden Arena and one at the Hardisty Arena both to start at 7 PM with a vote to be taken by respective Society members before the end of the evening. We hope that everyone who wishes a say in this decision will either attend, or bring forward their support or concerns to one of the Presidents listed at the bottom of this bulletin. If you have concerns, we hope that you also come with an alternate solution(s) to solve the problem of insufficient numbers to ice teams in our local arenas by our current Minor Hockey Associations.

Guidelines to pursue merge between Hughenden Minor Hockey Association and Hardisty Minor Hockey Association:

  • original associations should ice individual teams when possible at younger ages where tiering is not required by the league. Typically this would include initiation and novice.
  • original associations should enter new association with equal funding. Any leftover funds can be distributed as seen fit by the owner associations.
  • facility usage will remain at the precedent which has been set over recent years: 1) The location of games will typically be based on the percentage of players residing within original association boundaries. 2) The location of practices will be split 50/50. Final ice allocation of both games and practices will likely be determined based on those 2 guidelines with discretion by team management & association executive taking into consideration such factors as ice availability, travel, coach recommendations, etc.
  • original association residents should remain responsible for original facility preparation, kitchen duties, workbees, etc.
